Microtunnelling technology has developed buoyantly in recent years. It has reached a high standard worldwide and is environmentally friendly as well as economical.

Precision in pipe jacking technology requires high-quality reliable jacking pipes.

The polymer concrete material POLYCRETE jacking pipes are manufactured using polyester resin concrete, which makes them reliably corrosion-proof. The quartz aggregate is in the low-pore gradient section as defined in DIN 1045. The binder meets the requirements of DIN 16946, section 2. The resin binder and inert aggregate materials - including no cement - make for corrosion resistance between pH 1.0 and pH 10. Even biogenic sulfuric acid cannot cause corrosion.

The closed tight material structure is free of capillaries. Polymer concrete does not take up any water. So material contamination is ruled out.

The excellent material bonding ensures high compressive and tensile strength and is an ideal precondition for use in pipe jacking. 

 

The POLYCRETE jacking pipe The accurate pipe geometry can be adapted as required. Production in molds with exact dimensions ensures the accurate size and round shape of the pipe walls over the whole length.

The use of the standard lengths kept on stock (1, 2, and 3 meters) depends on the nominal diameter and the requirements of the pipe jacking technology. The fitting pipes and joint links for connection to the manholes are manufactured in shorter lengths as ordered by the client.

In principle the inner diameter (d1) is the nominal diameter (DN). Since the external pipe diameter depends on the jacking head a deviation from the nominal diameter is possible for reasons of cost-effectiveness or structural design.

Quick Connection

 

House connections. For property and street drainage the house connections are always made subsequently, mostly through the manholes. If connections are made directly to the sewer the connection pieces (sleeves or socket ends) of approved and standardized pipe systems will be used. The necessary tapping can be made using commercial core drilling machines with diamond annular bits.

Manhole connections. There is hardly any disturbance or settling in the surrounding ground where pipe jacking is carried out.

So the connections to brickwork or site-mixed concrete buildings are in general made without additional joint links. The connection socket ends in the construction also function as fitting elements.

POLYCRETE prefabricated revision manholes installed at the start and receiving shafts of a line feature standard-size connection sleeves. So the space towards the pipe segment can be bridged by a fitting pipe and push-on tightening collars as required.

The Complete System

Pipe jacking of microtunnel street sewage collectors only makes economic sense if the house connections are made the same way using the same start shaft for the street collector and the connections.

For nominal diameters up to DN 800 and lengths up to 2,000 mm radial pipe jacking from round shafts is usually preferred. Completion of the start and receiving shafts as manholes is very costly, especially for large nominal diameters. It is more cost-effective to install a POLYCRETE prefabricated manhole featuring the same properties as POLYCRETE- jacking pipes.

Reliability and Safety

 

The material properties make for a pipe surface so smooth that friction during the pipe jacking process is minimized.

The production molds and milling ensure that the faces of the pipes are plane-parallel and at right angles with the pipe axis. POLYCRETE jacking pipes meet the requirements of ATV working sheet A 125 of the German Association for Waste Water Technology.

Upon receipt of an order Meyer supplies the structural calculations for testing as specified in ATV working sheet A 161.

The specifications of installation should be indica-. ted as comprehensively as possible.

The pipe connections

Besides performing the evident sealing function the pipe connection also guides the pipes during the pipe jacking. This is best effected by a connection fixed to one side by frictional coherence. However, secondary bending can occur during pipe assembly and due to jacking movements so that „floating seals" are preferred for small and medium diameters.

 

House connections DN 150 and DN 200 Property connection jacking is important if street collectors and house connections are made from the same start shaft.

Although steel protection pipes are mostly used for jacking these connections POLYCRETE property connection pipes can also take high compressive loads. The focal points are, however:

Microtunnelling

Due to the large share in the length of sewer systems this is the most important field. The pipes must take high compressive loads because the jacking has to bridge a whole span or even the double length.

The pipe guidance and pressing of the sealing profiles is the task of a GFRP or steel collar assembled on one side in the manufacturer's place.

„Man-sized" cross-sections In this field conventional ground working dominates. Intermediate jacking stations can be used to achieve any span, and curved drives are possible.

Besides the GFRP collar steel collars can be used as well.

Bentonite can be injected through injection - nipples for support and lubrication.
